Dr. Songpope is presently Director General of Department of Mineral Fuels of the Ministry of Energy of Thailand. He has joined the Thai Government’s Civil Service since 1978 and had many work experiences in geological field. He graduated with a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, University of London, U.K. His thesis for his Ph.D. was conducted in Andaman Sea which was one of the deepest and most complicated fields in Thailand. As the first pioneering geologist in the North Eastern of Thailand, together with nearly 40 years of experience in geological field, Dr. Songpope is the one who is able to explain all of the forming of the plate in the North Eastern of Thailand. Currently, he takes the crucial role in increasing Thailand’s reserves towards the coming 21st Bidding Round of Thailand.
Prior to his present post as the Director General of Department of Mineral Fuels, Dr. Songpope has held many important positions such as Deputy-Director-General of Department of Mineral Fuels, Director of Policy and Strategy Coordination Office of the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Board Director of Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Co.Ltd., and Deputy Chief Executive Office (DCEO) of the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Authority (MTJA).
